“ WOUND GEL” PRP/THROMBIN & TISSUE ENGINEERING IN WOUND MANAGEMENT
This book explores the clinical applications of autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and PRP/Thrombingel in acute and chronic wound management.Chronic wounds represent a significant global health challenge. Their failure to heal is driven by persistent inflammation, impaired angiogenesis, extracellular matrix degradation, and infection–related complications.
What is PRP?
Platelet–Rich Plasma (PRP) is an autologous blood–derived product enriched in platelets which are a source of growth factors. These bioactive molecules stimulate cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and tissue regeneration.
When activated with thrombin, PRP forms a biological gel that mimics the early stages of physiological wound healing and supports tissue repair.
PRP Technology
PRP preparation requires a standardized process to ensure optimal platelet recovery while minimizing contamination by red and white blood cells.
Standardization is essential to ensure reproducibility and therapeutic consistency — a key aspect addressed throughout this book
Applications in wound management
PRP/Thrombin gel aims to:
• Promote granulation tissue formation
• Enhance angiogenesis
• Support extracellular matrix remodelling
• Accelerate re–epithelialization
The book integrates biological foundations with clinical perspectives, providing a structured overview of regenerative strategies in wound care.
